New combo therapy aims to stop phantom pain before it becomes chronic

NCT ID NCT07139483

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether combining mirror therapy with mild brain stimulation, started soon after amputation, can prevent short-term phantom limb pain from turning into a long-term condition. About 108 adults who recently lost a limb will be randomly assigned to receive the combined treatment, mirror therapy alone, or usual care. The goal is to see if early intervention can stop pain from becoming chronic and improve quality of life.
