Sugar before surgery? new study tests safety for diabetic patients

NCT ID NCT07237841

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving a carbohydrate drink 2 hours before surgery is safe for people with well-controlled type 2 diabetes. 76 adults were split into two groups: one got the drink, the other fasted as usual. Researchers measured blood sugar and checked stomach contents with ultrasound to see if the drink caused any problems. The goal was to gather evidence on whether this practice can be used safely in diabetic patients to improve recovery after surgery.
