Botox before belly surgery: breathing breakthrough?

NCT ID NCT06485440

First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looked at whether injecting botulinum toxin (Botox) into the side belly muscles before large hernia repair surgery can improve breathing. Large hernias can shrink the space for organs, making surgery tricky and affecting lung function. The study involved 30 adults who had breathing tests before and after the Botox injections. The goal was to see if the temporary muscle relaxation from Botox helps the lungs work better.
