Food as medicine: new study aims to cut diabetes risk in new moms

NCT ID NCT06445530

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether providing medically tailored meals and fresh food delivery can help Black women who had gestational diabetes control their weight after childbirth and lower their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. About 40 low-income new mothers will receive either prepared meals or a mix of prepared meals and fresh groceries, plus support via phone and a messaging app. Researchers will track how well participants stick with the program, their satisfaction, and changes in diet and weight over six months.
