Can a special PET scan spot hidden prostate cancer after focal therapy?
NCT ID NCT07733908
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This trial investigates whether Posluma, a PSMA-targeted PET scan, can accurately detect any remaining or returning prostate cancer about 12 months after focal therapy. Researchers will compare the scan results with MRI and biopsy data in 22 men with intermediate-risk, organ-confined prostate cancer. The goal is to see if this imaging method could serve as a reliable monitoring tool.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Posluma (flotufolastat F 18) PET scan
- What this could lead to
- If accurate, Posluma PET could become a non-invasive way to monitor prostate cancer after treatment, reducing the need for biopsies.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial with only 22 participants. The scan may not be accurate enough to replace standard monitoring methods.

Inclusion Criteria: 1. Diagnosis: Histologically confirmed PCa. 2. Risk Profile: Intermediate-risk , organ-confined PCa 3. Eligibility for Focal Therapy: Determined to be an appropriate candidate for focal therapy based on clinical evaluation. 4. Age: 18 years or older. 5. Life Expectancy: Expected survival of at least 10 years. 6. Informed Consent: Ability to understand and willingness to sign the informed consent form. Exclusion Criteria: 1. Previous Treatment: Prior treatment for PCa, including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, focal therapy, or androgen deprivation therapy. 2. Severe Comorbid Conditions: Presence of severe comorbid conditions that may interfere with study participation, such as uncontrolled cardiovascular, renal, hepatic, or metabolic diseases. 3. Contraindications to Imaging: Known hypersensitivity to components of the Posluma PSMA radiotracer, or inability to undergo PET or MRI imaging due to medical or anatomical constraints (e.g., severe claustrophobia, metallic implants incompatible with MRI).
