Blood-Derived gel may reduce complications in rare bladder surgery
NCT ID NCT07294612
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tested whether a gel made from a patient's own blood (platelet-rich fibrin) can help reduce complications after surgery for a rare bladder condition called bladder exstrophy. Twenty children undergoing their first repair surgery were randomly assigned to receive either standard closure or standard closure plus the gel. The main goal was to see if the gel lowered the chance of developing a fistula (an abnormal opening) or wound breakdown after surgery.
