Blood protein fingerprints could predict deadly infections in cancer patients
NCT ID NCT07277387
First seen Dec 18, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looks at blood samples from 350 adult cancer patients who have a fever and very low white blood cells (a condition called febrile neutropenia). The goal is to find patterns of proteins in the blood that can predict serious complications like sepsis or septic shock early. Researchers will collect blood at the start of the fever and again 48 hours later, then use computers to build a prediction model. This is an observational study, meaning no new treatment is tested—it aims to improve how doctors identify high-risk patients.
