New hope against plague: common antibiotic tested in landmark trial
NCT ID NCT01243437
First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether the antibiotic ciprofloxacin works as well as doxycycline for treating plague, a serious bacterial infection spread by fleas. About 200 people in Uganda with suspected plague took either ciprofloxacin or doxycycline by mouth. The main goal was to see how many people survived within 14 days. The results could help doctors choose the best treatment, especially in areas with limited resources.
