Summary
This study looks at how non-surgical gum cleaning (scaling and root planing) changes certain proteins in the saliva of people with gum disease. It compares 22 smokers to 22 non-smokers to see if smoking affects treatment outcomes. The goal is to better understand why smokers often have worse gum health and less benefit from standard therapy.
