Penicillin allergy labels may fuel superbugs, study warns
NCT ID NCT07177690
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 33 times
Summary
This study looks at how having a penicillin allergy recorded in medical notes affects treatment for hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Many people labeled as allergic are not truly allergic, yet they receive less effective antibiotics that can increase drug-resistant bacteria. Researchers will compare outcomes and measure antibiotic resistance genes in saliva and gut samples from 214 adults.
