New drug may help restore blood flow in critically ill children

NCT ID NCT07519226

First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether penehyclidine hydrochloride, a drug that blocks certain nerve signals, can improve tiny blood vessel function in children with shock better than the standard drug atropine. The trial included 98 children aged 28 days to 18 years who still had signs of poor blood flow even after their blood pressure was stabilized. The main goal was to see how quickly the drug could normalize capillary refill time, a simple measure of blood circulation.
