New combo therapy shows promise for rare thymic cancer

NCT ID NCT03463460

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This phase II trial tested a combination of two drugs, pembrolizumab and sunitinib, in 9 people with advanced thymic carcinoma that had spread or couldn't be removed and no longer responded to standard chemotherapy. The goal was to see if the combination could shrink tumors or stop them from growing. Pembrolizumab helps the immune system attack cancer cells, while sunitinib blocks enzymes that help tumors grow. The study is now complete and not recruiting new participants.
