Triple threat: new drug combo aims to shrink advanced breast cancer

NCT ID NCT02778685

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding an immunotherapy drug (pembrolizumab) to standard hormone therapy (letrozole or fulvestrant) and a targeted drug (palbociclib) could shrink tumors in postmenopausal women with newly diagnosed stage IV estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer. 47 participants received the combination. The goal was to see how many had their tumors shrink significantly. This is not a cure, as patients continue on maintenance therapy, but it aims to better control the cancer.
