Autism toothbrushing breakthrough: peer videos beat 3D models in plaque fight

NCT ID NCT07492810

First seen Mar 30, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested two teaching methods to improve toothbrushing in 120 children with autism aged 6-12. One group watched videos of other kids brushing, another used a 3D jaw model, and a third got usual care. The peer video group had less plaque and better brushing skills that lasted up to 6 months. The 3D model helped less. The goal was to make oral care easier for children with autism.
