New scan could reveal Parkinson's brain clumps
NCT ID NCT07348250
First seen Jan 16, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This early-phase study tests a new imaging drug called [18F]MK-0947 that works with PET scans to show clumps of a protein called alpha-synuclein in the brain, which are linked to Parkinson's disease. About 22 adults with Parkinson's and healthy volunteers will receive the drug and undergo scans to check safety and how well it highlights these protein deposits. The goal is to develop better tools for diagnosing and tracking Parkinson's, not to treat it.
