Glowing glands: new probe aims to prevent common surgery complication
NCT ID NCT06765941
Summary
This study is testing a new handheld device called PTeye that uses a special light to help surgeons see parathyroid glands during thyroid surgery. The goal is to see if using this tool helps surgeons better identify and preserve these tiny glands, which could reduce the risk of a common complication where patients need calcium supplements after surgery. Researchers will compare surgery outcomes for 154 patients, with half of the surgeons using the device and half relying on their eyesight and experience alone.
