Neck brace overuse? study lets paramedics decide who really needs one

NCT ID NCT02786966

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested whether paramedics could use a simple checklist (the Canadian C-Spine Rule) to decide which low-risk trauma patients really need a neck brace and backboard during ambulance transport. Over 3,600 patients took part. The goal was to reduce unnecessary immobilization, which can be painful and costly, without missing any serious neck injuries.
