Labor-Shortening drug tested in new study
NCT ID NCT07237880
First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether a single dose of papaverine, a muscle relaxant, can safely shorten the pushing stage of labor in women who have already received a balloon catheter to prepare the cervix. About 184 pregnant women at full term will be randomly assigned to receive either papaverine or a placebo. The goal is to see if the drug reduces the time to full dilation and the second stage of labor, while monitoring for any side effects.
