First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding dexmedetomidine to the numbing drug ropivacaine provides longer pain relief after abdominal surgery. 209 adults aged 30-60 undergoing a midline laparotomy received an ultrasound-guided rectus sheath block with either the combination or ropivacaine alone. The main goal was to measure how long pain relief lasted using a standard pain scale.
