First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This pilot study tests whether adding a nerve block catheter (erector spinae plane block) to standard pain medication improves breathing and reduces complications in adults with broken ribs from chest trauma. About 40 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block plus pain meds or pain meds alone. The main goal is to see if the nerve block helps increase lung capacity within 24 hours.
