New pain block may cut opioid use after gallbladder surgery
NCT ID NCT07164664
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 26, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested two methods to control pain after gallbladder removal: a nerve block (external oblique intercostal block) versus injecting pain medicine into the surgical cuts (port-site infiltration). Sixty adults took part to see which approach lowered pain and the need for strong painkillers like morphine in the first 24 hours after surgery. The goal is to find a better way to manage pain and reduce opioid use.
