New pain relief method may match epidurals after colon surgery
NCT ID NCT01552226
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study tested two standard pain control methods after colon or rectal surgery: a local anesthetic delivered through small tubes placed near the surgical site (preperitoneal analgesia) versus an epidural. About 98 adults having planned surgery took part. The goal was to see if the local method works as well as the epidural for pain relief and reducing the need for extra pain medicine.
