New study finds better way to measure tooth length in children's root canals may reduce pain

NCT ID NCT07181252

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at 130 children aged 10-15 who needed root canal treatment on a permanent molar. Researchers compared two methods for measuring the tooth's working length: an electronic apex locator (a small device) and digital X-rays. The goal was to see which method led to less pain after the procedure. Children rated their pain at several time points over a week. The study was completed in early 2025.
