First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tested whether having a personal pain coach helps people recover from orthopedic surgery for sports injuries. 148 patients were assigned to work with a Life Care Specialist in person or via telehealth, or to receive standard written instructions. The coaches taught mindfulness and other non-drug pain management skills. The goal was to improve pain control and reduce opioid use after surgery.
