New hope for HIV patients with kaposi sarcoma: cheaper drug may work just as well

NCT ID NCT05411237

First seen Dec 12, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether a common chemotherapy drug, paclitaxel, works as well as a more expensive one, pegylated liposomal doxorubicin, for treating Kaposi sarcoma in people with HIV. About 130 participants in sub-Saharan Africa will receive one of the two drugs every three weeks for six cycles. The goal is to see if both drugs are similarly effective at stopping the cancer from growing, while also comparing side effects.
