Can a breath of oxygen ease the strain of mountain living?
NCT ID NCT06489756
Summary
This study tested whether breathing supplemental oxygen could lower high blood pressure in the lungs of people who live permanently at high altitudes. Researchers recruited 48 people with this condition, known as high altitude pulmonary hypertension, who lived above 2500 meters. They measured heart and lung function at 3200 meters, both while breathing normal air and while receiving oxygen through a face mask.
