Oxygen overload? study links early FiO₂ to sepsis stress marker

NCT ID NCT07332637

First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study observes 110 adult ICU patients with sepsis to see if the amount of oxygen given in the first 24 hours is linked to changes in a blood marker called uric acid/albumin ratio (UAR), which reflects oxidative stress and inflammation. Researchers will measure UAR at admission and 24 hours later, and track 28-day survival. The goal is to learn whether too much oxygen may cause extra stress in septic patients, and if UAR can be a simple marker for that damage. No new treatments are tested—only data is collected.
