Hernia repair without general anesthesia: a game changer for frail patients?

NCT ID NCT07514273

First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looked at whether small, reducible ventral hernias (belly button or midline hernias) can be safely repaired using only local anesthesia (numbing medicine) in an outpatient clinic, instead of general anesthesia (being put to sleep). 35 adults with small hernias (≤2 cm) and a healthy weight were included. The goal was to see if the procedure is safe, feasible, and could offer faster recovery and less pain for patients.
