Can a Benin-Specific diet help control diabetes?
NCT ID NCT07145684
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a culturally tailored medical nutrition therapy for African patients with type 2 diabetes. The program includes personalized meal plans, nutrition counseling, and group education. Researchers will measure blood sugar levels and diet adherence after 6 months, and again at 12 months. The goal is to see if this approach works better than usual care for managing diabetes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- culturally tailored medical nutrition therapy (diet counseling and meal plans)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide an effective, culturally appropriate diet program to help African patients better manage type 2 diabetes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 64 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention requires weekly meetings and family support, which may be hard to sustain.
