Pill power: oral antibiotics match IVs for skin infections
NCT ID NCT00323219
First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tested whether an oral antibiotic (moxifloxacin) works as well as an IV antibiotic (cefazolin) for people with moderate skin infections (cellulitis) in the emergency department. About 390 adults with moderate infections who would normally need daily IV treatment for several days took part. The goal was to see if a simpler pill treatment could be just as effective, potentially avoiding the need for IV lines and daily hospital visits.
