Toothbrush vs. pneumonia: simple mouth care could save ICU patients
NCT ID NCT06039995
Summary
This study tested whether adding toothbrushing and moisturizing gel to standard antiseptic mouthwash could prevent pneumonia in patients on breathing machines in the intensive care unit. Researchers compared two groups of 100 patients to see if the enhanced oral care reduced infections, shortened ICU stays, or lowered death rates. The goal was to find a simple, cost-effective way to protect vulnerable patients from a common and serious hospital-acquired infection.
