First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving oral care education and reminder cards to people on hemodialysis improves their oral health and helps them adapt to their chronic disease. 82 adults who had been on dialysis for at least 6 months took part. They received a 15-minute one-on-one lesson, a reminder card for home, and a checklist to track daily oral care. The goal was to see if these simple tools could prevent neglect of oral hygiene and improve overall well-being.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
oral health education and reminder cards
What this could lead to
If effective, this simple approach could help hemodialysis patients maintain better oral health and adapt more easily to their chronic condition.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed quasi-experimental study with 82 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is educational, not a medical treatment, so benefits are limited to self-care improvements.
As listed by the trial registrant
