Light may help cochlear implants hear better
NCT ID NCT05110183
First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding light to standard cochlear implants can improve hearing. Researchers will insert special light-delivery devices into the inner ear of 30 adults who are already having ear tumor surgery. They will measure how well the auditory nerve responds to light, electricity, and both together. The goal is to see if light can safely and effectively stimulate hearing cells more precisely than electricity alone.
