New shot aims to cut opioid use after common hand surgery

NCT ID NCT03867539

Summary

This study is testing a new approach to manage pain after carpal tunnel release surgery without using opioid painkillers. Researchers will give some patients a long-acting numbing shot called Exparel along with education about opioids, while others get standard care with opioid pills. The goal is to see if the shot and education can effectively control post-surgery pain and reduce the need for opioids, which carry risks of addiction and overdose.
