Varicocele surgery showdown: open vs. laparoscopic – which is better?

NCT ID NCT07353164

First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study compared two surgical techniques for treating varicocele, a condition where veins around the testicle become enlarged and can cause discomfort or fertility issues. One hundred men aged 20 to 60 were randomly assigned to receive either open surgery (through a small cut in the lower belly) or laparoscopic surgery (using small ports and a camera). The researchers measured how long each operation took, how many days patients stayed in the hospital, and whether they developed a wound infection after surgery.
