Scientists probe omega-3 link to premature babies' eye health

NCT ID NCT02820662

Summary

This study aimed to understand if the levels of omega-3 fats in a premature baby's blood are connected to the development of an eye condition called retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Researchers enrolled 62 infants born very early (before 29 weeks) to measure their omega-3 levels and check their eyes for signs of the disease. The goal was to gather knowledge, not to test a treatment, to see if these fats play a role in how blood vessels develop in the eyes of premature newborns.
