Fish oil infusion may ease breathing in newborns with rare birth defect
NCT ID NCT04031508
First seen Mar 19, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tests whether a special fat emulsion made from fish oil can help newborns with a severe lung condition (pulmonary hypertension) caused by a hole in the diaphragm. About 40 babies will receive either the fish-oil emulsion or a standard soy-based one through an IV. Researchers will measure changes in lung pressure, oxygen levels, growth, and pain to see if the fish oil reduces inflammation and improves outcomes.
