First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a 24-hour infusion of the drug octreotide works as well as a 72-hour infusion to prevent early rebleeding in people with liver cirrhosis who had bleeding esophageal varices treated with endoscopic banding. The trial enrolled 34 adults with cirrhosis and active variceal bleeding. The goal was to see if a shorter treatment could be safer and just as effective, but the study was terminated early.
