Structured diet coaching may improve control of multiple chronic diseases
NCT ID NCT07712900
First seen Jul 20, 2026 · Last updated Jul 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a structured nutrition counselling program can improve diet, blood sugar, blood pressure, and quality of life in adults who have both type 2 diabetes and hypertension. About 308 participants from 14 hospitals in Ethiopia will either receive six individualized counselling sessions over three months or continue with usual care. The counselling is based on a behavioral model that addresses what people need to change their eating habits.

- COM-B Model-based nutrition counselling
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this counselling approach could become a standard, low-cost way to help people with multiple chronic conditions better manage their diet and health.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small, single-region trial. The counselling is intensive (6 sessions in 3 months) and may not be feasible in all settings. Results may not apply to other populations.
