New eye implant could delay cataracts after surgery

NCT ID NCT05026632

First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests a special implant placed in the eye during vitrectomy (a surgery to remove the eye's gel). The implant releases a drug to slow down cataract formation, which often happens after vitrectomy. About 30 adults who need vitrectomy and already have some cataract will take part. The goal is to see if the implant is safe and can delay cataract progression, possibly reducing the need for another surgery.
