New device could replace risky catheters for kids in hospitals

Summary

This study is testing a new, non-invasive device that uses ultrasound to measure central venous pressure (CVP), a key indicator of heart and fluid status. Currently, measuring CVP requires inserting a catheter into a major vein, which carries risks like infection, especially for children. The research aims to see if this new, touch-based method is safe and works as well as the standard invasive procedure in up to 100 pediatric patients who already have a catheter for medical care.
