New scanner could take the guesswork out of back surgery

NCT ID NCT06661850

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tests a tool called NOCISCAN that uses MR spectroscopy to help doctors tell which discs in the lower back are causing pain. About 300 adults planning back surgery will join, and researchers will compare surgical results when doctors have the NOCISCAN report versus when they don't. The goal is to see if this non-invasive scan leads to better pain relief.
