New Metal-Coated nail aims to stop bone infections after breaks
NCT ID NCT05022485
First seen Nov 28, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tests a new type of metal rod (nail) placed inside the shinbone after a fracture. The nail has a special coating made of noble metals to reduce the risk of infection. About 500 adults with high-risk tibia fractures will get this nail, and their infection rates will be compared to patients who received standard uncoated nails. The goal is to see if the coated nail is safer and more effective at preventing serious bone infections.
