Smoke signals: new test could spot dangerous lung leaks Mid-Surgery
NCT ID NCT05971719
First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tests a new way to find air leaks in the lungs during surgery. Doctors will pump a harmless glycerine smoke into the lungs and watch for it to escape through leaks using a standard camera. The goal is to see if this smoke method works better than the usual water test, especially in minimally invasive surgeries. About 200 people having lung transplants will take part.
