New device shrinks gum gaps in cleft patients, boosting graft success

NCT ID NCT07578207

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a new, simple device to reduce the size of wide gaps in the gums of 15 people with cleft lip and palate. The device slowly pulls the bone apart to make the gap smaller, which can help future bone grafts work better. Participants were aged 12 to 25 and had already had cleft repair surgery.
