Could better blood storage ease the burden of lifelong transfusions?
NCT ID NCT07055503
Summary
This study is observing adults with transfusion-dependent thalassemia who are already receiving blood stored in a special low-oxygen system as part of their regular care. The goal is to see if this new storage method helps reduce the amount of blood they need per transfusion, improves their energy levels, and lessens side effects like iron overload. Researchers will compare their health during a period of receiving standard blood to their health while receiving the low-oxygen stored blood.
