New surgery may better treat brain fluid in babies after meningitis

NCT ID NCT07320599

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study compares two surgical methods for treating fluid collections that can form on the brain after meningitis in infants. The newer method uses a tiny camera (neuroendoscopy) to remove the fluid and any scar tissue, while the standard method uses a small hole and drain. The goal is to see which approach leads to better recovery and fewer complications. The trial will include 100 infants who have already received at least three weeks of antibiotics.
