First seen Apr 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to detect if a coma patient is aware but unable to move, known as cognitive-motor dissociation. Researchers will use EEG to measure brain activity after a mild wrist nerve stimulation, looking for signs of motor intention. The goal is to improve predictions of recovery in 50 adults with severe brain injury in the ICU.
