New nerve surgery aims to stop chronic pain before it starts after breast cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT06580951

Summary

This study is testing if a small, additional surgical step during a standard mastectomy can prevent long-term nerve pain. About 200 women scheduled for mastectomy with reconstruction will be randomly assigned to either receive this nerve-protecting procedure or the standard surgery alone. Researchers will track pain levels and quality of life for a year to see if the new approach reduces the risk of developing chronic pain.
