First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study compares two types of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks—Erector Spinae Plane Block and Quadro-Iliac Plane Block—for managing pain after lumbar spine surgery. Researchers will measure how much opioid painkiller patients need in the first 48 hours after surgery and how well they recover. The trial involves 80 adults aged 18 to 65 scheduled for elective lumbar instrumentation surgery.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If one block works better, it could offer better pain control and less reliance on opioids after back surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (80 people) comparing two procedures. Results may not apply to all patients, and individual responses to nerve blocks vary.
